In 1961, driving for Scuderia Ferrari, Hill became the first American to win the Formula One World Drivers Championship, "the ultimate competition in all of motorsports." Other highlights include winning the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans three times, the 12 hours of Sebring three times, the Argentine 1000Km two times, the Grand Prix of Italy twice and the Belgian Grand Prix. Hill went on to win countless other races in a career that spanned two decades. He has the distinction of having won the first and last races of his driving career, the final victory being the BOAC 500 at Brands Hatch in England in 1967.
Hill has also worked as a television commentator for ABC's Wide World of Sports and as a contributing editor and writer for Road & Track magazine. After his racing career Hill's passion switched to restoring antique automobiles. His highly reputable restoration business won numerous awards over a span of two decades. The crown jewel of his collection is the 1931 Pierce-Arrow, which has been in his family since new. Hill and his wife, Alma, have one son and two daughters and reside in Santa Monica, California.
